Epson to Launch Production of Ultra-Low Power 4-Bit Microcontrollers
New series on S1C63000 can handle 1.1 V, enabling portable devices to last longer on a single button cell
TOKYO, Japan - Seiko Epson Corporation ( "Epson", TSE: 6724) announced today that it has developed a new series of ultra-low simultaneous 4-bit Microcontrollers. The series microcontrollers S1C63000 operate with as little as 1.1 V in operating trends and only 0.1 microA in standby mode. Volume production is scheduled for opening in April 2010, with calling plans at two million units, the amount per month.
The new microcontrollers are designed for use in mobile devices, which requires sustained battery life.The series product use S1C63000 Epson original low-power analog and IP technology with low leakage process, allowing the microcontroller to operate on a 1.5V button cell (eg a silver-oxide battery or button cell alkaline), the both because the current consumption is restrained during the sleep mode and also because the chips can only run on 1.1V. Even if the processor is clocked at high burn rubber (4 MHz), the microcontroller consumes only 220 microA of the current.This is about 75% less than previous comparable products from Epson * 1, allowing new microcontrollers chain dramatically to the autonomy of the equipment in which they are used.
