Will my netgear gigabit ethernet switch work without the gigabit ethernet card?

I perfectly bought a Netgear 5-port gigabit ethernet switch, model GS605. I didnt recognize it needed a special card, and my computers at home condign have a regular ethernet card. How will this still work, if at all, if i plug it into a regular union card. I will probably

It should work with a 100Mb/s card, as well as with a 10Mb/s card.
